What about music?

Hello everybody!

Today I am going to reflect on the role that music plays in teaching.

In ancient China, Confucius did not conceive education without music, which he considered the second most important of the six essential arts in which to educate young people.

Numerous studies support that music reinforces the learning and progress of brain areas related to language. The daily contact with music and its study has multiple benefits for the motor and intellectual development in early ages. Some of them are the reinforcement of attention and concentration, an increase in memory and creativity, the development of motor and rhythmic skills, an increase in self-confidence, ease in socializing and a reduction in stress.

Music has positive effects on the cognitive, creative, intellectual and psychological development of children. It has even been shown that music stimulates the left hemisphere of the brain, the one in charge of language learning, numbers and the use of logic.

The melodic work favors the memorization of texts and the correct accentuation of words and even improves diction. Auditory work benefits the ability to concentrate and learn other languages. While the rhythmic work helps the understanding of mathematical relationships.
Given the supposed interference of music in the learning of other subjects, it seems that it is rather the opposite. Music helps to interrelate knowledge, to socialize, fosters collaboration, critical spirit and respect.

As future teachers, we should know that the best way to teach music is by encouraging students to participate actively in the class.

That's all for today's post! I hope that this topic seems interesting to you and that you continue investigating a little more about it.
